Welcome
to the first edition of ScriptwriterCentral’s
newly revised THE MUSELETTER.
There have been a lot of changes and innovations going
on at SWC, as well as a whole new site launch –
EnlightenedEntertainer.com.
And through it all, the one thing
that has been clear to me is the importance of having
a vision of the Big Picture,
a destination. In other words, the busier I get, the
more important it is to know where the heck I’m
going BEFORE I start out.
And not only WHERE I’m
going and WHAT I’m
going for, but WHY.
So, in the spirit of new beginnings,
I thought it apt to start this issue off with an article
that could help you get greater clarity on where you’re
going as well. Just like it’s important to know
what the ending of your script is before you write it,
it’s important to know where you want your screenwriting
career to end up.
Take some time to really think
through this process. Don’t rush it. Knowing where
you’re going and creating a plan to get there
will ultimately save you a lot more time and trouble.
Keep Writing
– and Stay Inspired!

Bullet-Proof Your Script Against Reader Rejection |
|
Learn how to
avoid all the reasons readers reject your script in
this cutting-edge E-Course!
Imagine you’re a studio script
reader. It’s Sunday night. You’re dog tired.
Dreading work tomorrow where you’re stuck in your
own version of ‘Swimming With Sharks’. Your
girlfriend (or boyfriend) has just broken up with you
– for the 5th time. Your rent is past due –
for the 5th time. And you still have to face THE
STACK. That monstrous pile of screenplays sent
in by aspiring writers.
The truth is, your script is going
to be in that stack, facing an overworked, underpaid
reader – who is also a struggling writer himself
(or herself), and they’re not going to give you
a break – unless you earn it.
What I’ve discovered are
a handful of key things that they look for when judging
a script -- things other than overall storytelling --
things that get you rejected, or seriously discredited,
before they even get into the heart of your script.
Bottom line, you need to do whatever it takes to make
your script look, feel, read, and smell professional.
Do just that much and you’ll
put yourself in the top 10% of all scripts submitted. |

7 Power Principles To Explode Your Screenwriting Career |
|
For
most people, having talent isn't enough.
You must also have a clear vision,
connected to your core values -- and a plan that will
get you to where you want to go.
Only 3-5% of the population ever
get clear on what they want and why, then create a plan
to achieve it.
And it's no accident that only 3-5% of society ever
finds financial freedom or true fulfillment.
You can be in that top 3-5%. You can achieve more than
you ever thought possible. You can take your talent
-- and take it to the next level.
"The 7 Power Principles" will give you the
map that will get your there.
Put yourself ahead of the competition today. Tap into
your power by practicing the Power Principles of the

BEGIN WITH THE END
It’s
one thing to create a plan to get where you want to
go. But what do you think is going to keep you moving
toward it, even on those days when everything seems
to be against you? What’s going to be your fuel
to keep moving forward?
To achieve a strong
WHAT you need an
equally strong WHY.
You need a purpose. And to keep you on track, it’s
a good idea to create a MISSION
STATEMENT. Or a Screenwriting Credo.
We don’t have the time to
create an entire mission statement here. We’ll
go through some of it. But if you’re really interested,
there’s a more complete version of it in both
my books, “I
Could’ve Written a Better Movie than that!”
and “There’s
No Business Like Soul Business.” You can get
the full audio course, “7
Power Principles to Explode Your Screenwriting Career.”
So let’s just take a few
moments and talk about the components of a mission statement.
I love Stephen Covey’s work around this. He breaks
it down into four major areas – To
Live, To Love,
To Learn, To
Leave a Legacy.
To put this in a context of screenwriting,
you could say that your mission statement should be
about:
1. Doing Great Work
2. Creating Work that Adds Value to Others, that Entertains
and Serves
3. Doing Work that Constantly Expands You and Your
Abilities
4. Doing work that has a Lasting Impact on People,
on the Business, and the Planet.
To know the answers to this, it
helps to know what you VALUE MOST. What about writing
do you really value? What about the process do you really
value?
